Sometimes we feel no progress is being made after the spiritual practice in class ; it seems to fade away and we are back into worldly affairs not understanding the nature of life.
We fall apart when obstacles arise and we get so overjoyed in favourable circumstances that inevitably enslave us to find more pleasure and avoid more pain.
We are being ruled by these dualities of life.
It is said we need to do our duties wisely, with an attitude of WILL to act consciously surrendering to the power beyond the wavering nature of life.
Keeping the mind calm and quiet, to enjoy pleasures of the world with a certain amount of restraint so as to remain the master of external objects and circumstances so nothing can control or enslave.
When the attitude of WILL is used to act consciously we release from acting unconsciously, which would just feed our deep rooted patterns/desires (and we do this by our picking up information via the senses that relates to our memory.) Overall this keeps us in a mundane existence. This is sensory fulfilment confined to body and mind.
When the mind is still and not ruled by senses and deep rooted desires then there is fulfilment taking place within the power beyond the nature of life.
Spiritual evolution is a process of mental involution; dissolving the actions in mind that over rule being conscious.
